Precious metals have proven themselves a store of value over the centuries, one of the essential elements you need for sound money. Crypto assets or cryptocurrency are the new kids on the block in a historic sense looking to mimic the favorable attributes of precious metals. That's why we often hear of digital currencies referred to as digital gold.
